Cluff (Clough State Park) and Beavers

Ah—one of these days,
but more and more,
like beavers chasing sticks—
we pile on
what we think will hold
the waters back.
Still, the current hums
a song of pause.

If you are wondering about the beaver babies:

Thank goodness—
beaver babies don’t play near the dam.
They nest in a lodge,
safe and warm,
far from the roaring
trouble of the damn.
