Here’s a short clip from our program on the Cloquet Terminal Railroad in Cloquet, Minnesota. This is a short line that operates about 6 miles of track and provides services to several large wood products plants. Until 2002 it was the Duluth & Northeastern Railroad, which was the last logging railroad in Minnesota.
The two SW1s were built in 1941 for the EJ&E and came to the Duluth & Northeastern to replace steam in the winter of 1963 and 64. When we visited in 2013 the 72 year old diesels were still going strong and comprised half of the railroad’s locomotive fleet.
