What is cloisonné you ask? pronounceˌ(kloiznˈā). It's beautiful decorative work in which enamel, glass, or gemstones are separated by strips of flattened wire placed edgeways on a metal backing. It's from the mid 19th century: French, literally ‘partitioned’, past participle of cloisonner, from cloison ‘a partition or division’.
