On April 23rd, 1995, four days after Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols bombed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City; President Clinton spoke to the nation from Oklahoma City. Clinton's ability to connect and share the values of the community, and of the nation at large, was a key factor in the success of this speech that eulogized the lives lost.

From the opening line, "All of you are here as our fellow Americans," he binds everyone in the audience as a single entity. He no longer speaks as a public political figure but as a member of a shared community.
