Severed limbs, robotic legs, and an enormous donut inside a clown's mouth? No, you're not dreaming.
You're looking at the latest work from Cleveland artist Violet Maimbourg: a colorful, creepy, and completely captivating carnival she built from the ground up. Maimbourg's new solo exhibition, "Your Love Is My Favorite Carnival," is on display at Waterloo Arts through Sept. 19.
Make sure you take a closer look, because nothing is quite as it seems.
"I don't like carnivals, right? So it's kind of ironic that I made carnival-themed work," Maimbourg said. "But it's kind of how I see romantic relationships throughout my life."
For Maimbourg, carnivals and relationships have more in common than you might think. They can seem fun and exciting at first, but once they're over, the experience can leave you feeling anxious, uncomfortable, and wondering what just happened.
