This is the famous Copal Model 201 flip clock with an obvious twist that is clear to see. It has a transparent plastic case and a plastic front, unlike the glass front usually found in this model. This clock almost certainly was for issue or sale to someone in the US prison system.
As you may know, in many US prisons, inmates may purchase some electronics, radios and even televisions, but they must be clear cased to decrease the chance of contraband being brought in or stored in the device.
The Copal 201 is one of my favorite flip clocks and was likely the clock that got the flip clock craze started in the United States. As early as 1966 the clock was being imported exclusively by the Ropat company, Culvert City, California.
