Cleaning & Setting up the Gerbil Cage

The cage came with 5 wheels that screwed into the base however I decided to remove them and put the cage on top of a coffee table as I couldn't see the gerbils very well when the cage was on the floor. The table was purchased from ikea and the cage fits perfect on top as the dimensions are the same.

The bedding I use in the digging area is a mixture of dust extracted wood shavings and Megazorb and the bedding for the rest of the cage is called Aubiose.
Gerbils are very active pets therefore they need plenty of enrichment to keep their brains simulated. Some examples of enrichment for gerbils includes
-Cardboard boxes - they love to chew these up and hide in them (and they are free!)
-Cork tunnels/pieces of cork - gerbils will climb on these and gnaw their teeth on them
-Rocks - great for filing down their nails and climbing
-Ledges - they like to use these to perch & jump on
-Bendy bridges - they are very versatile and great for their teeth
-Chinchilla sand - beneficial for their coat & often used as a litter tray
-Lots of bedding - excellent for digging and making tunnels
-Scatter feeding - encourages natural behaviours
