Claudia Roden (b. 1936) is an Egyptian-born British cookbook writer and cultural anthropologist of Sephardi/Mizrahi descent. She is best known as the author of Middle Eastern cookbooks including "A Book of Middle Eastern Food", "The New Book of Middle Eastern Food" and "The Book of Jewish Food". TRANSCRIPT: Well, when my parents arrived, they arrived very soon after the Suez War. And they arrived with nothing. And the woman and her husband, who rented us a flat, were Jewish. And they came to us, and they said, 'Your parents can come, and they stay as long as they like and we don't want any money from them'. We were allowed, eventually, to stay. But for a long time, until I got married, I had no passport. I had just an identity card to say we were allowed to live here.
