Claudia Roden (b. 1936) is an Egyptian-born British cookbook writer and cultural anthropologist of Sephardi/Mizrahi descent. She is best known as the author of Middle Eastern cookbooks including "A Book of Middle Eastern Food", "The New Book of Middle Eastern Food" and "The Book of Jewish Food". In this unique interview for Web of Stories, Claudia Roden is talking to her granddaughter Nelly Wolman about her life in food. [Listener: Nelly Wolman; date recorded: 2022]

TRANSCRIPT: It became my way. I'm mentioning a lot more about Morocco because this is where I learnt how to start. Because also I started asking everybody I met, 'Can you give me recipes?' And it was a funny way of just saying hello. And because were taken aback sometimes, and then a lot of people were glad that you were interested in their food. I would say, 'I am an English food writer. Writing about your cuisine. Can you tell me?' And, of course, they didn't quite believe I was English. But they did believe really that I was interested in their food. And so, that was a good start.
