It's finally finished. I'm so relieved. I was so excited when I started it, then inspiration ran out, then vegas tried to kill it. I don't know, it's a miracle it's seen the light of day.
(and I really have to thank July for her positive vibes about this one, without which I would 100% have given up on it).
I've put Clary in the title, but really this is Marcos and my OC, Carlyn (their ship name is Carlos, thanks July, I can't get it out of my head!!).
BACKGROUND INFO;
Unlike Marcos, Carlyn had loving parents, both of whom were mutants who fought for mutant rights, unfortunately, they were both killed when she was young. Her extended family (non mutants), wanted nothing to do with her, and so she ended up on the street. That is where she met Marcos. Eventually, when he joined the cartel, he took her along with him - she was welcomed with open arms because her powers are scary (she can manipulate and use pretty much any form of energy). He always promised he'd find a way to get her out. Somewhere down the line, she realised she had fallen in love with him.
When Marcos was found by John and Lorna, it was his vow to Carlyn that fuelled his agreement to join them as much as anything else, and so he kept his promise, and the two of them left the cartel for the mutant underground. Carlyn came to love her new extended family, even if watching Marcos and Lorna fall in love hurt, she was happy they were happy.
(Marcos' feelings for Carlyn are slightly more complicated, because he always figured that he meant it quite literally when he referred to her as his family - that he saw her as a sister - it only recently dawned on him that he's been lying to himself).
IN THE VIDEO (not shown chronologically);
When Lorna is taken by Sentinel Services, Carlyn blames herself; she's convinced that if she hadn't 'choked' and just used her powers, they would all have made it back safely. This begins to eat away at her despite the assurances of Marcos that it wasn't her fault, and there was nothing that could've been done, so she goes to Clarice, trying to convince her to portal her into the prison. Clarice refuses, but not before revealing how obvious Carlyn’s feelings for Marcos are. This obviously shakes Carlyn, who starts to think of their past, and an idea dawns on her – the cartel could have the information they need to save Lorna. She takes her idea to John, who isn’t thrilled but agrees, despite Marcos’ protestation that it’s a bad idea to send Carlyn back. He secretly arranges with John that he be the one to go in her place.
A while later, once they’ve gotten Lorna and Reed back, Lorna approaches Carlyn worried about Marcos. Carlyn quickly realises what Marcos has done (something she confirms when she overhears John and Marcos on the phone – a conversation which seems to have double meaning), and confronts him when he gets back. In the midst of their argument, it becomes clear to both of them that their feelings have become confused, which eventually begins to have an impact on the way they act around each other.
Things get even more complicated when Lorna chooses to join the Frost sisters.
It's messy, and incoherent, and I'm sorry. Please excuse the glitches, like I said, this project has been such a nightmare. I just give up. IDK, just appreciate the pretty faces.
