Clark Richard & his Tropical Stars he was active as a singer, guitarist and bandleader in the 60s, when living in The Netherlands (Dordrecht) and Belgium (Steenokkerzeel & Tremelo).
Richard Andreas was born on November 23, 1940 in the town of Benkulen (Bangkahulu) in Sumatra.
Richard started around 1960 as a singer & guitarist with The Black Rocking Cats in Utrecht.
At the end of 1960 he moved to Dordrecht and joined Tony & his Magic Rhythms.
Richard Andreas aka Clark Richard had already performed a number of performances in Belgium with Tony & his Magic Rhythms from Dordrecht.
In Belgium he soon got the nickname "The Indonesian Elvis! " A recording contract for HMV also followed in 1962.
In the studio in Brussels, Clark Richard recorded two rocking compositions "Queen Of love" & "Hot Rock Beat" with his Tropical Stars.
His next single "Ching-Ching Twist" & "Jambalaya" was accompanied by session musicians.
His first song "Come Back To Me", which he recorded for the record label Ronnex in 1963, was adapted from Frédéric Chopin's (piano etude no.3 in E major).
It became a hit in Belgium.
Clark Richard continued to write much of his own work, mostly with other composers such as Bill Crompton from England.
In Belgium, Clark Richard lived in Steenokkerzeel and Tremelo, among others.
From the last place, he later emigrated to America.
He spent some time with his family in Ontario, Canada,
and later in Louisiana and California.
In April 2000 (he visited his 95-year-old mother in Dordrecht) Clark Richard was back in Belgium for a concert in Tremelo.
