A number of NSW RFS brigades are part of the Community First Responder program which provides initial care during life-threatening medical emergencies while awaiting ambulance response.
Specially trained CFR volunteers can offer medical help, as well as comfort, to members of their community during what can be a very traumatic time.
Since the program started in 2016, Clarence Town Rural Fire Brigade has attended more than 800 CFR calls. That's about one every two days.
