How we got here:
Took a summer work trip to London and one of my listening selections to overcome jetlag was the @primerpod podcast about Japanese City Pop - a genre of music born from the economic positivity of the 80s with heavy jazz and R&B influences. While this music is sometimes cheesy and aligned with synth wave, it has a charm, sadness and complexity that has transcended generations and continues to inspire. After filling my head with City Pop goodness including modern takes, I could not help but create a track inspired by the sounds and instrumentations of this vibe. This instrumental track made on the Dirtywave M8 tracker includes Linn drum samples (see Primer episode 4), lush chord stings, and some fun melodic and experimental elements.
