I have a confession!
*Leans in close to whisper into your ear*... I become *incredibly* nervous when I perform by myself. But when I'm performing with others, I feel invincible!
I LOVE performing, dancing, and making art. But sometimes doing it alone feels very vulnerable.
For this fun 2026 New Years Eve event, hosted by @cirquedesmorts & @westcoastcircus, I had a choreography that I was going to dance, but I ended up becoming so nervous that I forgot EVERYTHING and decided to improv the entire performance. I'm sure this happens to performers all the time, but we're good at hiding it haha!
Although, there's something very alluring about improv dancing. Improvised movements are fascinating to me because I let my body decide what comes next, rather than my mind. So what you see here is how my body decided to move.
Still, I had SO much fun and felt incredibly blessed to have amazing friends in the audience cheering me & the other performers on!
@dancingoracle of @cirquedesmorts has been such an incredibly positive and encouraging friend who supports artists and communities in the best ways possible. I've seen her and her team work incredibly hard to put together these really amazing shows that include all kinds of performing artists. I am truly grateful for the support that Stephanie & the Cirque Family has given me. I'm really excited to continue supporting Cirque Des Morts for future events!
Whether we let our mind, body, or spirit decide our moves, performance art will always be such a beautiful way to express ourselves and encourage us to keep making art however possible. Here's to the courage to keep on going!
