"I’m not going to insult any true sci-fi nerds (like myself) by claiming the idea of “Neurochem” was my own. It’s obvious (to you true sci-fi nerds, like myself) that it was inspired by Richard K. Morgan’s Altered Carbon book series. This was long before Netflix decided to put their spin on it, which I didn’t totally love TBH. Like many other true sci-fi nerds (like….. yeah, myself) once you read a book, paint the picture of that world and characters in your head and give the characters a physical appearance of some sort, it’s hard to adjust to some Hollywood machine’s version of what they think the story should look like, sound like and convey. But hey, on the other side of that coin Blade Runner is one of my fav movies of ALL TIME, so it doesn’t always apply.
So instead of talking about all the deep emotional connections I have to the song and lyrics, I’d recommend anyone interested in diving deeper (especially true sci-fi nerds like you-know-who) to read the Altered Carbon series. I truly think the books were way better than the Netflix series, but of course that’s my opinion that I’m thankfully entitled to. Just for the record I feel the same exact way about the Expanse series by James SA Corey (A.K.A. Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck) I LOVED the books and they played out like a blockbuster movie in my head as I was reading but sadly the characters didn’t live up to my expectations in the tv series. I grew to kinda like it but no where near as much as I liked the books.
