This is just meant to showcase a little headcanon of mine. In the most realistic way i could think Dream could have bad habits like smoking, etc. Perhaps he doesn't do it often, he just relapses from time to time. And usually when he does he hallucinates Nightmare trying to talk him out of it like he did before
He got into smoking when he was young because of the villagers and whenever he got really stressed he'd just smoke alone in the forest as opposed to crying.
