Yasunori Mitsuda’s Chrono Trigger OST was heavily influenced by jazz and jazz fusion. As a result, when someone goes to make a jazz version of a Chrono Trigger song... Awesome stuff happens. This mix highlights some of my favorite jazz remixes of Chrono Trigger for a loungy, outdoorsy vibe. It’s a chill listen and I want to make more jazz mixes in the future.

This was the song that motivated me to make this mix with its loungey yet nature-y piece. It’s such a breathtaking, dynamic yet smooth take on the iconic theme!
4:35 - Wonderful World (Sean Schafianski)
Sean Schafianski does an excellent job with his short yet sweet Chrono Trigger Jazz arranges. I particularly love his usage of electric piano.
7:15 - Secret of the Forest (Contraband VGM)
This one really nails it. From that quiet, peaceful opening that transcends into a cover which never stays in one place for too long, yet never moves too quickly either, and carrying that strength for 1a minutes of pure bliss... This is art.
18:44 - Green Memories (Harmsing)
This is really a unique take on Green Memories. I was so shocked when I realized it used wind sounds, because I always had listened to it while I was outside and thought it was real wind...
24:35 - Time’s Seal (OC Jazz Collective)
Sealed Door is a song which is known for its melancholy, mysterious feelings. So to be able to take that, and completely transform it into some excellent lounge jazz, while still ensuring the song is super high quality and very well-arranged, is a sign of true talent from the OC Jazz Collective.
31:35 - Corridors of Time (MissingNo.)
This and Green Memories are from Chronicles of Time, which is a charity album with a huge and unique range of sounds. One of the things I really like about it and this in particular is how professional everything sound. This really is well done.
36:56 - The Brink of Time (GUIDO)
I only realized that this had some little reverb/delay effects applied to the lead today... So cool! It’s the shortest and chillest track on the incredible Brink of Time album, which I highly recommend.
39:39 - Secret of the Forest (Xnarky)
I really love it when remix artists mix nature sounds into their music. As someone who listens to VGM remixes a lot when on nature walks, it’s very pleasant for me and allows me to connect with the music really nicely. Maybe that’s why Omori’s soundtrack hit for me...
44:24 - Schala’s Theme (insaneintherain)
Another masterpiece from insaneintherain, this take on Schala’s Theme takes that melancholy melody we all know and love and transforms it into something truly incredible, with an incredible dynamic range, much like his Corridors of Time. So fantastic!
50:16 - Revolution of World Peace (Epoch)
I appreciate such a unique take on a song which is not covered as frequently as it should. This really deserves more respect, it’s such a joy to listen to!
55:04 - Time Drift (Sean Schafianski)
The way this starts with the acoustic guitar and vibraphone before adding the horn later on is so cool. I listened to this a ton last summer and I expect this summer I’ll be enjoying this mix quite frequently.
57:37 - Outskirts of Time (GUIDO)
And here we are! I love ending mixes on To Far Away Times remixes, it fits so well. I feel iffy about the vocals sometimes, however this is such a perfect end to the playlist I can excuse them. So, so delightful.
