Other guides are super misleading, so here's a noob's rundown:
1. Walk up to the blue reticle thing.
2. Examine it with the A button, then press the A button again so the "Enter password" text goes away.
3. Press Left trigger, then A, then Right trigger, then A.
Took me well over half an hour to get this right, condensed down to 3 minutes and 26 seconds for your viewing pleasure (honestly why would anyone watch 3 minutes and 26 seconds of me getting this wrong?)

Please excuse my lack of commentary during the successful Luther attempt and the credits. It took me well over 50 tries to beat this boss walking on eggshells and being as careful as possible each attempt. I like how the final boss theme is 10 minutes long, like the developers knew he would take forever. I needed that time to sit in silence and reflect on the game. Sitting in silence during the credits after beating a game is one of my favorite things to do (is that weird?) so its what I needed after so many attempts. I start talking again at 56:53. Final thoughts start around 1:18:20.
A beautifully philosophical game with a memorable twist. The idea of an artificial simulation growing sentient life that knows itself to be real, by believing that its real, is wonderful. The ending, when Luther attempted to delete everything but failed because the consciousness of all the inhabitants of the artificial universe was too real to delete, is a beautiful conclusion. Since finishing this LP I learned that the twist was rather controversial, and it appears that future SO games try to avoid it entirely. Some even calling the twist generic or, worse, an embarrassment. Thats a shame. This twist makes the SO lore more poetic, and it doesnt invalidate SO1 or SO2. If we were a simulation, would it make us matter less? Would it even change anything at all? Is there a difference between believing in something and knowing it to be true?
Sure, all this talk is kinda dumb, a little silly, perhaps bit cheesy, maybe cliche, but hey... It made me fucking cry, dude. Im not gonna pretend like this game didnt resonate with me.
I like how this game didnt make try to be vague with its theming. Usually when a topic like this is tackled in a video game its all symbolic and up to interpretation, not really in plain view. But this game is blatantly asking what is the nature of reality and meaning? and its not being subtle about it at all, which I greatly appreciate. Its even sorta in the title.
Despite the constant backtracking, confusing progression, too many cave dungeons, lack of fast travel (which SO2 sorta had despite being shorter than SO3), and some parts I just plain dont like at all (hauler mini game being mandatory ahhh), Ill give this game a 10/10.
Little theory I have: All the SO endings are canon. I dont mean any one ending can fit into the canon; I mean literally every ending is canon. All 80+ SO2 endings and all the endings in SO1. I think the SO universe being a simulation can allow for these kinds of shenanigans. But hey, thats just a theory.
Also one more thing, Ive seen a lot of fans compare this to the Matrix. I love the Matrix, but comparing this to the Matrix is dumb and misses the point of both the Matrix and SO. SO is about trusting what you believe to be true (Fayt, faith, get it? hah), while Matrix is more about seeing the truth through lies.
