So we decided to try the Cr(II) experiment again using NaBH4 and Potassium Chromate. The NaBH4 would dissolve and cause some bubbles but no color change was observed. So we added some drops of HCl (beginning of the video). It immediately turned dark green. It might appear blue in the video (it's really hard to see but if you shine some light through the solution is looks green and not blue. For some reason my cam shows this color more blue than it actually was) but the solutions was more of a dark green than a blue so we assume only Cr(III) was formed. Cr(III) in an chloride environment can adopt several shades of green and purple depending on concentration of solvent/ligand and chloride so this might be a variation of the green CrCl3 we showed in the other video. On the other hand we did not add as much NaBH4 as we did in the other video and the reaction was nearly over when we added the acid.
