In today’s Christmas scrapbook layout process video, I’m taking one scrapbook sketch and giving it a festive Christmas twist! This layout is part of our monthly YouTube Scrapbook Sketch Hop, where nine creative scrapbookers each create their own interpretation of the same sketch.
This month, Katy Taylor from Scrappin’ Katy selected our sketch and gave each of us a different challenge or technique. My assignment was Christmas Twist, so I pulled out the beautiful Timeless Christmas Suite Collection along with several coordinating sneak peek products and created a playful Christmas layout from start to finish.
Along the way, I’m sharing ideas for:
• Turning a scrapbook sketch into a layout that fits your own photos and style
• Working with longer, narrower and nontraditional photo sizes
• Layering patterned paper, cardstock and die-cut elements
• Adding texture with a 3D embossing folder
• Stamping and die cutting to create embellishment clusters
• Using small houses and accents to reinforce the theme without overwhelming the photos
• Taking the basic bones of a sketch and making it completely your own
For this layout I’m using the Timeless Christmas Suite Collection along with the Welcome Noel stamps and dies, Playful Patterns Stamp Set, Softly Woven 3D Embossing Folder, Adhesive-Backed Christmas Berries and other coordinating Christmas products.
I love how this layout turned out—the traditional reds, greens and warm neutrals feel Christmasy, but the little houses, layered frames and playful details keep it fun.
