Does the Bible say women are property? Exodus 20:17 lists your neighbor's wife between his house and his donkey.
This Christian caller came on to argue the Bible isn't misogynistic — then admitted on air that he hasn't read it.
In this call, Stray argues Christianity has done "as much good as bad" and that the Bible's treatment of women is just context. So we went verse by verse: the 10th commandment, Matthew 5:17-19, Ephesians 5:22-33 and the Greek word phobeo, 1 Timothy 2:11-12, and Numbers 30. We cover biblical misogyny, whether the Ten Commandments still apply to Christians today, and what "wives, submit to your husbands" actually says in the Greek.
Then I asked him for the book and chapter of the woman at the well. He Googled it — and said, out loud, "I haven't actually read it." Three seconds later he took it back. Both halves are in this video, uncut, because the walk-back is the best part.
Co-hosted by my wife, who asked the question that stopped him cold: if the Ten Commandments don't apply anymore, why are Christians all over the United States fighting to bolt them to public-school classroom walls? His answer: "I don't have an answer for that."
