This film depicts Global Horizontal Sounding Technique (GHOST) balloon field operations in Christchurch, New Zealand. The film shows scientists preparing for a balloon launch, launching a balloon, and tracking balloons via radio. NCAR scientists launched spherical GHOST balloons from Christchurch beginning in 1966, to collect atmospheric data to be used in global weather forecasting. (Color, silent.)
