We all fall short in our obedience to this simple but profound command: Love God. This song is about acknowledging that sinful tendency to grow cold in Love for Jesus and praying that He would bring us back to our "first love" for Him.
Theology is important. Good works are important. Spiritual endurance and refusing to compromise on your faith are all important. But of utmost importance is to truly LOVE God with all of your heart, mind, and strength. I honestly fail at this so badly. I go through the motions and let myself become cold. But God wants people who are fervent, fiery, and passionate about their relationship with Him. If that's not where you're at, I pray the same thing for you that I pray for myself: God, help us love You more. You are more beautiful than anything on this planet. Help our hearts swell with joy at the thought of your great love for us which you displayed in Christ. Thank you for what you've done to forgive me at the cross. Please don't let me be lukewarm or lazy in my love for you, because you paid too high a price on that cross for me to be a lazy or lukewarm Christian. Help me love You more. In Jesus name, Amen.
