The deaths of five people in two Chonburi cases have revived debate over whether Thailand should resume executions.

Capital punishment remains legal, but Thailand has not carried out an execution since June 2018 and is still classified by Amnesty International as a retentionist.

The case has also raised questions over repeat offending, post-release monitoring and whether the justice system should hold an irreversible power.
