Chocolate Pot is a colorful small geyser along the Gibbon River in Yellowstone National Park. Its temperature isn't nearly as high as many Yellowstone geysers, 130°F. It gets its name from the rich dark-brown chocolate color due to the presence of minerals including iron, manganese, nickel and aluminum. The cone has green, orange and yellow streaks formed by hot water loving thermophilic bacteria and algae. Some of those species live no where else in the world and can only survive in hot water.
