China has launched some of the most advanced ships and maritime machines on Earth, from polar icebreakers and deep-sea submersibles to autonomous motherships, aircraft carriers, and a reactor small enough to one day float at sea.
In this video, we count down China’s 10 most advanced ships, including Xue Long 2, CNOOC 981, Fendouzhe, Tian Kun Hao, COSCO Shipping Universe, Zhen Hua 30, Ganghangping 5, Zhu Hai Yun, Fujian, and China’s floating nuclear power plant concept.
You’ll learn how China built an icebreaker that can break ice in both directions, a deepwater rig that can operate thousands of meters below the surface, a submersible that reached the bottom of the Mariana Trench, a dredger that can build islands, and a container ship carrying more than 21,000 containers with only a small crew.
We also break down the Zhen Hua 30 crane vessel, Ganghangping 5 offshore wind installation ship, Zhu Hai Yun autonomous mothership, and Fujian aircraft carrier with electromagnetic catapult technology.
The biggest breakthrough is China’s Linglong One small modular reactor, a 125-megawatt nuclear reactor designed to power roughly 526,000 households, and the larger ambition to eventually place similar reactor technology on floating platforms that could bring electricity to islands, offshore fields, ports, and disaster zones without relying on a fixed grid.
This is not just a story about ships. It is a story about Chinese engineering, naval power, offshore energy, deep-sea exploration, autonomous fleets, small modular reactors, floating nuclear power, and China’s strategy to build machines that can generate, move, and deploy power almost anywhere.

![How China Made the Strait of Hormuz Irrelevant — Before the War Started
In 2025, the Strait of Hormuz closed — and China barely flinched. Heres the decade-long engineering operation nobody was supposed to notice.
When war shut down the worlds most critical oil chokepoint, every major economy scrambled. Prices detonated. Emergency sessions were called. Strategic reserves were tapped. And China — the worlds largest energy importer, the country that once sent half its oil through that same 21-mile bottleneck — kept its factories running and its grid stable. This wasnt luck. This was the most methodically executed energy security operation in modern history, built in plain sight over ten years.
What we cover in this video:
🛢️ The Chokepoint That Held the World Hostage — Why the Strait of Hormuz was described as a gun pointed at the Chinese economy, and why Chinas navy couldnt do anything about it
📐 The Calculation Beijing Made That Nobody Else Would — How Chinese planners accounted for the hidden geopolitical cost of oil and decided to treat a strategic vulnerability like an engineering problem with a known solution
☀️ The Solar Deployment Nobody Read Correctly — Why Chinas aggressive early renewables buildout wasnt just industrial policy — it was the opening move of an energy independence strategy timed to a threat that hadnt arrived yet
⚡ The Grid Nobody Talks About — How China built more ultra-high-voltage direct current transmission lines than the rest of the world combined to solve a geographic mismatch between where the sun shines and where the factories run
🌡️ The Facility That Stores the Sun — Inside Dunhuangs 12,000-mirror solar thermal complex in the Gobi Desert: the molten salt technology generating dispatchable, around-the-clock renewable power with zero fuel imports
🌍 What the World Just Learned and Cannot Unlearn — The structural shift that the 2025 crisis measured out loud: why China didnt build a thicker wall against the oil shock, it moved the building out of the flood zone entirely
💬 Drop your take in the comments: Do you think the rest of the world can close the gap with Chinas energy transition in time — or has China already locked in a permanent strategic advantage that no one else can catch?
