1.Today, the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee held a meeting to discuss and make arrangements for emergency rescue efforts following the mudslide disaster in Gyirong county, Shigatse City, Tibet. Can you provide any information on this matter?
The meeting emphasized that this disaster occurred in a high-altitude, frigid region, where valleys are steep and weather is unpredictable. There are still numerous glaciers, glacial lakes, and potential geological hazards in the surrounding area, causing enormous difficulties for rescue operations. All relevant parties must uphold the principle of putting people and human lives first and ensure all work is carried out with resolute and effective measures and scientifically sound and efficient methods. Search and rescue plans must be scientifically formulated, and every effort must be made to locate missing persons from both China and abroad. Joint consultations among multiple departments should be strengthened, along with monitoring and early-warning efforts. Close attention should be paid to the stability of the barrier lake and surrounding mountains, and effective measures should be taken to prevent secondary disasters. The management of personnel on-site must be strengthened to ensure safety throughout the entire rescue process. Proper arrangements must be made for the affected population and all follow-up work, such as compensation and relief efforts, must be carried out in a thorough and meticulous manner. Emergency assistance should be provided to the disaster-hit areas in Nepal and international rescue cooperation should be carried out.
We will earnestly implement the spirit of the meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and spare no effort in carrying out emergency response, rescue operations and other foreign-related work.
2.Does China have any official determination on the cause of the deadly mudslide?
We noted that experts and official institutions from both China and Nepal have already made some assessments regarding the causes of this disaster. According to their analysis, the disaster may have been triggered by a high-altitude glacier collapse in Nepal. For more details, please refer to the information released by the relevant Chinese authorities.
3.We noted the reports earlier this morning that 555 tourists have all been evacuated. There are reportedly many Indian tourists among them. Could you confirm whether all Indian tourists have been evacuated, or if there are any stranded?
As I mentioned earlier, the relevant information is still being verified. We have already notified the embassies of the countries concerned in China and will continue to maintain communication with them.
4.It is reported that the results of the Cook Islands parliamentary election showed that the Cook Islands Party, led by incumbent Prime Minister Mark Brown, won a majority of seats, and Brown is set to serve another term as prime minister. What is China's comment and what are China’s expectations for China-Cook Islands relations?
5.US President Donald Trump yesterday hinted that his government was preparing to sanction Chinese banks linked to Iran. What is the Chinese side’s comment?
