Former NetEase executive Simon Zhu has launched a new gaming company called GreaterThan Group — and one of its first major projects is Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, a brand-new Star Wars RPG led by original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect director Casey Hudson.
After NetEase pulled funding from multiple studios during the gaming industry downturn, Zhu left the company and began backing smaller, creator-driven teams focused on artistic vision over bloated AAA design. Fate of the Old Republic is being developed by Arcanaut Studios alongside several former BioWare veterans, with a focus on replayability, tighter storytelling, smaller development teams, and zero AI involvement.
