China has issued a flash flood warning for parts of southeastern Fujian after Typhoon Saudel made its third landfall in Zhangzhou on Thursday, September 3, after regaining strength over the South China Sea.
Visuals from state broadcaster CCTV showed severely flooded roads and emergency personnel evacuating residents. The storm has also brought heavy rainfall to Fujian and Zhejiang.
More than 2,500 teachers and students were reportedly trapped inside a school compound in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, after extreme rainfall triggered flash floods in low-lying areas.
Typhoon Saudel is forecast to move west towards Guangdong, with heavy rainfall in Fujian and Guangdong expected to continue until Friday.
