China has launched major rescue operations after a mudslide struck Gyirong Port in China's Xizang Autonomous Region on Wednesday, Aug. 26, killing three people and leaving 558 missing.
The city was heavily hit during a flash flood that swept through the China-Nepal border, burying homes and leaving debris across the roads.
More than 1,000 rescuers, including national fire-rescue personnel and engineering rescue teams, were dispatched. Heavy machines have also been brought in to clear mud and debris, while technology like thermal imaging is being used to search for signs of missing people.
