#ChillSpace Space Cinematic Music Video Beautiful Darkness I
Humans usually are drawn to the Light; but most of the Universe is dark, and the colourful-looking galaxies, nebulae etc. you can see from NASA and other space agencies don't really depict what we would call "reality", but are usually a "mix between art and science". In the "Beautiful Darkness" subseries of my #ChillSpace series I invite you to notice that not only bright-colourful-on-dark, but also seemingly "ugly", dull and dark colours like e.g. grey-mud-brown and also simple colours like plain White/Beige can leave us in awe when we see them on the big canvas of the Universe. See the beauty in everything :)
There'll be more sub-series to #ChillSpace, "Beautiful Darkness" is just one of them.
It takes many many many hours to create a single video like this, let alone creating or editing a song for it or finding the right one that can capture the mood of what I want to convey with that video.

In the beginning, you can see the dark side of Planet Earth, followed by a visit to Jupiter. In the video are some more planetary bodies of our solar system, namely Saturn as well as Neptune, Uranus, Mercury, and a look at the barycenter with Pluto and Charon. Some additional extrasolar planets and suns, imagined how they could look like :)

Hubble sends us pictures in black and white, not colour! The public beautifully coloured pictures you see are coloured afterwards by scientists and are thus often enhanced versions. In other cases it comes close to what we would see with our own eyes if we were to visit some regions ourselves. But most celestial objects such as e.g. nebulas emit colors that are too faint for us, as human eyes are not particularly sensitive to colour, not specially adapted to perceiving colours in low-light situations. It takes a telescope, letting light build up in its CCD over time, to see all the hues.
And for the other Hubble images scientists assign colours to the filters that don't correspond to what that light would look like to human eyes. They do this for example when using light from infrared and ultraviolet filters, since those wavelength ranges have no natural colours that the human eye could see, or when combining light from slightly different shades of the same colour.
For example, Hubble photographed the Cat's Eye Nebula through three narrow wavelengths of red light that correspond to radiation from hydrogen atoms, oxygen atoms, and nitrogen ions. In that case, they assigned red, blue and green colors to the filters and combined them to highlight the subtle differences. In real life, those wavelengths of light would be hard to distinguish for humans.
So, to sum it up, some display real colors while others use special filters (see above, red, blue, green!) and get thus mapped to more or less arbitrary colours, just to differentiate certain aspects that scientists want to visualize.
"Creating colour images out of the original black-and-white exposures is equal parts art and science," NASA says.
