Based on the West African-inspired young adult fantasy novel by Tomi Adeyemi, the first in the Legacy of Orïsha trilogy, Children of Blood and Bone is about a young woman named Zélie Adebola who fights to restore magic to her people in the kingdom of Orïsha after it was violently suppressed by a ruthless king. The story follows Zélie and a rogue princess, Amari, on a quest to bring magic back, battling the crown prince and confronting themes of oppression, injustice, and identity, all while navigating their own developing powers and relationships.
