CHHURPI छुर्पी is hard Yak milk cheese, which Nepali & Tibetan Himalayan people eat it as beetle nut. There are two types of cheese Yak milk cheese soft & hard. Soft one is consumed with rice as side dish while this hard is soften by putting it into warm water then it is cut into small pieces and chewed like beetle nut.
Chhurpi is manufactured in upper Nepali region and also in Tibet from pure Yak milk. In Nepali people call it chhurpi and is highly consumed by locals. In kathmandu, people also call it Durkha.
The taste of chhurpi is not so milky but addictive like beetle for sure.
Don't forget to try one Chhurpi on your next visit to Nepal. You can buy and take it back to your country too, you can pretty much store it for quite long time, few months to over a year.
