Associate Professor of Systematic Theology
The Rev. Dr. Cheryl Peterson is associate professor of systematic theology at Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus, Ohio. A native Ohioan, she grew up in Worthington and attended Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio before receiving her M.Div. at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago and Ph.D. at Marquette University. Before joining Trinity's faculty in 2005, she served pastorates in central Pennsylvania and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is the author of Who is the Church? An Ecclesiology for the Twenty-First Century (Fortress Press, 2013) and numerous articles and book chapters. She served on Round XI of the U.S. Lutheran-Roman Catholic Dialogue and currently serves on the Lutheran World Federation International Dialogue Commission with the Pentecostals. Her current research focuses on the person and work of the Holy Spirit in dialogue with Wesleyan, pentecostal, and charismatic theologies. Her husband, the Rev. Dr. Charles Peterson, is pastor of Old Trinity Lutheran Church in downtown Columbus.
