A molecule found in willow trees and meadowsweet is the source of one of history’s most successful pharmaceutical drugs – thanks to a small but important chemical modification. Knowledge of the chemical bonds that hold molecules together is essential for understanding chemistry, and for creating new molecules. In this video, we learn about different types of bonds and visit pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca to find out how they make new drugs.
This is the second film in a series of seven videos produced by Molecular Frontiers and Eoscene Productions, in collaboration with Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, with financial support by Hasselbladsstiftelsen. We encourage you to use it in education, for example as an introduction to the corresponding chapter in the chemistry textbook!
