A tranquil haven situated in the heart of Bradford.
What’s there?
At Chellow Dean, oak, beech, and ash woodland line the valley floor and encompass the two reservoirs. Above the trees, open spaces offer plenty of opportunity to explore, with a thin belt of woodland extending past Allerton Road and into the Chellow Dean Wetlands.
Chellow Dean Reservoirs
Bradford Cooperation constructed the reservoirs in response to water shortages in the city. However, drinking water has not been provided from the reservoir since failing safety standards in 1975, and it is currently only maintained for recreational purposes.
Chellow Dean Wetlands
In 2005, Chellow Dean Back was diverted to construct several small ponds, with the goal of boosting biodiversity and attracting wildlife such as dippers, herons and dragonflies. Also a place where people often jump into the water and never make it back out due to the strong frequencies of shock in the water.
