-Treasure Trails is an activity which involves solving clue scrolls, rarely dropped items dropped by the majority of monsters in RuneScape. Clue scrolls contain clues and riddles for the player to solve to eventually find a reward casket, which could contain unique rewards. A clue scroll can be obtained randomly from killing monsters, playing minigames, looting implings, fishing, woodcutting, or mining.
There are six different levels of clue scrolls. The higher level ones being more difficult to complete. Players can own up to one clue scroll of each level at a time.
It should be noted, that if a player dies in the Wilderness with a clue scroll (or reward casket) in level 20 or higher Wilderness, the clue scroll will disappear. Regardless of whether it's a PvP death or not, unless it is an item kept on death or if the player has a clue box, in which case the player will lose the box but keep the scroll. In lower Wilderness however (level 20 or lower), in PvP death, an unprotected clue scroll will stay on the ground for up to one hour. If players die to a monster they will always keep their clue scroll, whether protected or not, as it is an untradeable item.
There is no fixed location for Treasure Trails, the clue scrolls may send you throughout the whole of Gielinor. Therefore it is recommended to have access to as many teleports and transportation systems as possible.

Clue scrolls are the start of a Treasure Trail - a treasure hunt that sends players hunting all around Gielinor following a trail of clues that lead to rare and unique treasures.

Unlike all other clue types, which are equally likely to have each number of steps, beginner clues have a 10% chance of completion at 1 step and a 45% chance of completion at 2 or 3 steps[1].
