This kathak dance is part of the 2020 Virginia Group Fellowship series.
Chaturang is an old and rare form of Indian classical music. Literally meaning four colors, the Chaturang is comprised of four components - sahitya (poetry set to the raga), Tarana (meaningless syllables set in fast speed), Sargam (musical notes set in rhythm), and the Nritta Bols or syllables of pakhawaj that are intricately woven together. Thus, Chaturang gives us a collective taste amalgamating various styles & forms of music.
This piece was choreographed by Maneesha Sathe and performed by Purvi Bhatt, Director of Lasya Dance Academy and Shaalini Desai, senior member of Lasya Dance Academy.
Music composed by Dr. Shashikala Shirgopikar and sung by Mrinmayi Phatak.
