ABC News 4 | Charleston community rallies to aid flood victims in Asheville, NC @Abcnews4 | Uploaded October 2024 | Updated October 2024, 1 day ago.
WEST ASHLEY, S.C. (WCIV) — The heartbreaking conditions in Western North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Helene brought together businesses, law enforcement, and volunteers in Charleston to support flood victims in Asheville. Cam Brown, the organizer of the initiative, said, "I was told that the weight limit on these trucks are about like six tons and we definitely exceeded that."
The operation, spearheaded by Brown, transformed the parking lot of HYLO Fitness in West Ashley into a bustling assembly line. Volunteers, including Citadel Cadets, loaded U-Hauls with food, hygiene items, and clothing for those affected by the disaster. Nearly ten businesses, the Isle of Palms Police Department, and individuals contributed to the collection over several days, with volunteers delivering the items to HYLO.
