This breathtaking piece of music, which is essentially a concerto for violin, was written in 1894, approximately 13 years after Loeffler moved to the United States from France. The work sounds challenging, beginning with a moto perptuo-like allegro that showcases the soloist's endurance and technique. I am particularly fond of the lyrical slow movement with its sweet dialogue between the violin and ensemble.
