Chappo, "Run Me IntoThe Ground": Live
As part of our ongoing Live series, we invite touring musicians to drop by our offices, hop on our stage and wow us with a few of their tunes.
The latest group to drop by was Brooklyn quartet Chappo. The band sound has evolved over the years -- so much, in fact, they have come be known as sonic shapeshifters more than singular possessors of any one particular genre or sound. Garage rock, psychedelic rock, indie pop -- even the spacier elements of electronica -- is all there, floating around singer Alex Chappo distinctive vocals. Those trippy, glam-meets-ethereal elements are exactly what came across during the band’s performance.
On this stripped-down version of "Run Me Into the Ground" from its new release Future Former Self, has the psychedelic popsters invoking the Flaming Lips (in sound) and Julian Cope (that jacket! Those feathers!), while staying true to their sound. With a simple acoustic guitar and some float-y keyboard sounds, the quartet packed a wallop. Hit play and watch the group play in the barest of elements.
