Making pottery from raw clay can be tricky. Unknown composition of clay can result in failure or success. Testing is the only way to learn how to use a specific clay. After firing I place my pottery in water to see if it will maintain its structure. If it cracks, crumbles or disintegrates in water then something went wrong in the process. Sometimes the answer could be in the kind of wood that is used to fire the pottery.
