In this video, Peter Evans and developer Joe Dewhurst play through a couple of turns of Chalice of Poison: The Iran-Iraq War, 1980–1988, with some rules explanations along the way. The game is designed by Akar Bharadvaj and has recently been released on GMT’s P500 list. Enjoy!
Chalice of Poison explores a historically important—but under-gamed—war using a novel system that models both the external military struggle and internal political conflict. It includes a two-player mode and two solitaire modes, with a large variety of strategies available, making for considerable replay value. It is intended to be the first volume in a new series, with potential future volumes exploring similar dilemmas faced by different regimes throughout history.
