CHAD WILLIS JAZZ ORCHESTRA with MARIA SCHAFER & MARK KOPITZKE at Campus JAX in Newport Beach is a JAXblast Network production as part of Steamers Jazz at JAX series hosted by Terence Love and Tony Guerrero.
Chad Willis earned his Masters degree in Jazz Performance from the internationally renowned University of Southern California Thornton School of Music and Bachelors degree at the University of North Texas.
During his stay at UNT, he played 3rd trumpet in the 6 time Grammy nominated One O'Clock Lab Band, Lead trumpet in the Jazz Repertory Ensemble, Lead trumpet in the Two O'Clock Lab Band, Lead trumpet in the One O'clock Lab Band, Principal Trumpet in both the Symphony Orchestra and the Wind Symphony, in addition to several brass quintets and various chamber ensembles. Chad was also invited to play with the Dallas Brass over the summer of 2011 and in the summer of 2013 he joined Lyle Lovett in his Large Band. Performing in the Los Angeles area, Chad plays with a wide variety of groups from jazz to classical and everything in between. Chad is currently playing regular lead trumpet with Bill Holman, John Daversa, Brian Bromberg, Lou Rovner, and the Julia Keefe all Indigenous Big band. You can also find Chad Willis performing with Don Randi, Tony Guerrero, Amanda Castro, Brian Duprey, Paul McDonald, Alex Mendham, John Wasson, Pete Meyers, Darrell Leonard, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Kim Richmond, Bernie Dresel, and many more.

Known for deeply connecting with audiences new and old, silken-voiced singer Maria Schafer deftly interprets beloved jazz standards while also introducing the world to her own remarkably catchy and endearing original music. Drawing influences from folk and world music cultures, you can find her dancing onstage while playing with some of the best instrumentalists around Los Angeles and elsewhere.
