An industry riddled with corruption and a union subverted by criminals: that's the picture being painted by Michael Crosby, the latest man appointed by the federal government to administer the CFMEU.

He took on the role in May. Since then he says former Victorian union official John Setka has threatened him with violence.

This week Victoria's new premier Ben Carroll announced he'd call a royal commission into the CFMEU. A separate inquiry in Queensland got underway last year.
