CERN scientist Amalia Ballarino explains how superconductivity, an essential component of CERN’s particle accelerators is a strong candidate to become a game changer in the field of energy supply, from the transportation sector to high voltage lines in cities. Among the examples of the spin-offs from the current developments for future particle accelerators are the treatment of tumours, and low-emission aircrafts.
