Cerebral Veins
- No Valves
- Lie in the subarachnoid space
- Classified into the deep cerebrla veins and the superficial cerebral veins
Deep Cerebral veins
- Drain blood from the diencephalon and deep parts of the hemispheres into the great cerebral vein
- Great cerebral vein (vena magna cerebri)
β Basal veins (vena basalis) run underneath the hypothalamus and is formed by a union of small anterior cerebral veins (venae cerebri anteriores)
β Internal Cerebral Vein (cena interna cerebri)
β Superior Thalamostriate Vein (vena thalamistriatum superior)
β Superior Choroid vein
β Anterior vein of Septum Pellucidum
Superficial Cerebral Veins
- Collect blood from the cerebrla cortex and drain into the venous sinuses
- Superficial Middle Cerebral Vein (vena cerebri media superficialis)
β Drains frontal, temporal and parietal lobe.
β Anestemoting branches: Superior Anastomotic Vein of Troland (v. Anastemotica superior) and Inferior Anastomotic vein of Labbe (vena anastomotica inferior)
- Superior Cerebral Veins (vv. Cerebri superiores)
- Inferior Cerebral Veins (vv. Cerebri inferiores)
- Superior and Inferior Cerebellar Veins (vv. Superiores et inferiores cerebelli)
Diploic Veins
- Lie in ''Diploe'' and drains them.
- They mainly drain the blood into the venous sinuses
Emissary Veins
- Veins that connect the Dural Snuses and the Extracranial Veins
- Also called Cranio-Cerebral Anastomosis
- Parietal Emissary Vein (vena emissaria parietalis)
- Mastoid Emissary Vein (vena emissaria mastoidea)
- Occipital Emissary Vein (vena emissaria occipitalis)
- Condylar Emissary Vein (vena emissaria condylaris)
