Ceph-CSI: The Engine Behind Persistent Storage in Kubernetes - Niels de Vos, IBM & Madhu Rajanna, IBM Germany Research & Development GmbH

Ceph-CSI is the gateway for container platforms to consume storage provided by Ceph. The project provides a complete implementation of the Container Storage Interface (CSI) specification, and more. This allows container platforms like Kubernetes and Docker Swarm to use RBD, CephFS and NFS volumes for their application workloads.

The Container Storage Interface specification describes a minimal set of administrative operations for storage providers to implement. More advanced features are added to the specification, sometimes with Ceph-CSI as the initiator of the feature, and regularly as one of the first projects to implement these new features.

Some of the recent feature work includes
- Volume Group Snapshots (consistency groups)
- Changed Block Tracking (differential backup).
- new recommended deployment method introduced by the ceph-csi-operator project
- initial investigation and design for Changed File Tracking
