At The Ocean Cleanup, science has always been central to understanding the scale, sources, and behavior of ocean plastic pollution.
This week marks a milestone for our Research team: we have now released 100 peer-reviewed scientific publications.
From mapping the Great Pacific Garbage Patch to identifying the most polluting rivers, foundational to our 30 Cities Program, as well as industrial fishing in the Pacific Ocean, our research informs cleanup strategies, helps trace pollution back to its origins, and guides effective interventions.
Looking ahead, and as we scale our cleanup efforts worldwide, our focus will shift from diagnosing the problem to measuring and demonstrating our impact.
