This past spring marked 5 years since HRF launched the Bitcoin Development Fund (BDF). What began as a modest initiative (powered by a single $100,000 gift from a visionary donor) is now a driving force for technological innovation in human rights worldwide. In places where regimes weaponize money to surveil, censor, and control, BDF-funded tools are giving people the power to receive donations, run payroll, transact, and coordinate without permission and censorship.
